Could Andy Carroll play in our new system effectively?
Would it work if he partnered either Sakho or Valencia up top with diamond behind?

I'm not so sure

Yes he could, I can see that working well. I'm a massive cunt though.

which bit do you agree with?

lets be clear on this?

Re: Could Andy Carroll play in our new system effectively?
Yes, I think he could. The fact that he is a capable, stand alone, target man, doesn't alter the fact that he can score, with head and feet and would be a success, playing alongside either of our current front men.

He'll get injured in his first game back and not play again for 18 months.

I don't think he'll ever come good for us.

I know its not his fault he's injury prone but I'm a bit Fucking sick of it now.

I think he's a good footballer and IF he can stay fit he'll get plenty of game time

I think everyone is a cunt, you especially

Re: Could Andy Carroll play in our new system effectively?
might be interesting to see him and sakho up top with a more traditional 442 with valencia in the right wing role. He really enjoyed attacking off of that side on saturday.

Re: Could Andy Carroll play in our new system effectively?
I think it can work. He's not as one-dimensional as people think and I think his all round game could develop. With the quality of balls the full backs are putting into the box then it means he will also have crosses to go for.

Someone mentioned before that the big thing he won't match Sakho/Valenica with is putting opposition defenders under pressure when they have the ball. His lack of pace also means he will not be as good at running the channels.

Re: Could Andy Carroll play in our new system effectively?
I don't think the system will be the same if he plays.

Sakho and Valencia play up top but they both like to pull wide and both have the energy to spend a lot of time chasing the ball and putting defenders under pressure. Replace one with Carroll and the dynamic changes completely. It could still be effective but I doubt we'd play the same way.

Re: Could Andy Carroll play in our new system effectively?
He is on too much money to sit on the bench long term or to be sold without a massive pay off so he better be able to play.

Im sure it will be irrelevant anyway when he gets injured and is out for another year. The longer he is out injured the better a player he becomes in the world of myth making.

We have two quality strikers brimming with confidence and ambition who are full of desire up play for the club. I dread to think what will happen when they see big Andy rock up after a night on the sauce and be told he is the senior striker in the squad.

Allardyce is already on record as saying that Carroll's going to have to wait for his chance.

A fully fit andy Carroll would get 20 goals a season in our current form. Very underrated by many in this site. Despite what BFS says....he will be one of the 1st names on the team sheet.

Re: Could Andy Carroll play in our new system effectively?
My guess is that throughout the game we would be swapping between a front three that looked like this...

--- Valencia ---- Carroll ----

------------ Downing ---------

...and this...

----------- Carroll --------

Valencia ------- Downing

Valencia and Downing are perfectly comfortable in both of those roles.

Didn't really effect our system much with Carlton Cole coming on in the last few games, who i'd say is less mobile than Carroll and a far worse player.

With us scoring the majority of goals from crosses and set pieces he should fit in well, even if he isn't as industrious as Valencia and Sakho.

So despite the manager saying he won't be, you are saying he is? Righto!

Re: Could Andy Carroll play in our new system effectively?
Seth - But that has Downing in a completely different role. And Carroll wouldn't play anything like either Sakho or Valencia do.

I can't see us not playing differently. Carroll is a very good player so it would probably be effective but it would be different.

Re: Could Andy Carroll play in our new system effectively?
Face - I think the style does change a bit when we have Carlton instead of Sakho or Valencia. And its not a great example because he hasn't started loads of games.

The reason we have scored so many headers, imo, is precisely because both centre forwards pull wide, sometimes at the same time and invariably end up being marked by full backs (or not at all) when a cross is delivered. Carroll doesn't pull wide and will put himself up against the centre half for the majority of the game. He is effective but I can't see us playing the same way with him up there.

We'll soon see, probably.
